Z-RED focuses on specializing in a vast range of research activities aimed at fostering innovation, and developing novel solutions that address the dynamic needs of the digital era as well as societal, environmental, and wellness challenges.

Z-RED is at forefront of developing and applying cutting-edge technologies to address challenges and opportunities in several diverse interconnected areas specializing in multidisciplinary research across Agriculture/Farming, Environment, Industry/Manufacturing, Public Safety, Smart Cities and Communities, and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications. The vision of Z-RED is to push the boundaries of what is possible in communications, from enhancing delivery time, reliability, and security of data transmission, up to pioneering the next generation of communication standards and technologies. The on-going research and development activities cover a broad spectrum, including but not limited to, the design and optimization of network architectures, the development of advanced algorithms for data exchange/processing, the support of related training/education activities, the exploration of cutting-edge technologies such as 5G and beyond, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Big Data, and Cloud/Edge Computing.
